Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Governance and Control Specialist to join our team at ScotiaGBS. As a key member of our Internal Control Governance team, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution of a diverse portfolio of controls and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory and bank policy requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage a team of analysts to execute weekly, monthly, and annual controls and processes with regional and global impact across the GBM organization.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate execution of all controls/processes, escalating effectively to Associate Director, GBM Internal Control (Bogota) in instances where this may not be the case.
  3. Manage exceptions emanating from the book of work to conclusion in collaboration with regional and global Internal Control partners.
  4. Serve as the point of escalation for any issues identified by the team during their execution of controls/processes, managing all such issues to conclusion.
  5. Produce high-quality management reporting, including KRIs/KPIs where appropriate, for onward global publication.
  6. Assess all controls/processes within the portfolio for prospective improvement and enhancement, assisting the Associate Director with the management of any ensuing changes and uplift.
  7. Manage the addition and absorption of additional controls/processes as they arise, working closely with regional and global colleagues to transition such activities in and/or build net new capabilities effectively.
  8. Effectively manage a team of direct reports, being an inspiring, empathetic, and kind leader.
  9. Work effectively with regional and global colleagues across both Internal Control and the business lines.
  10. Communicate effectively (oral and written) with stakeholders of varying seniority across the various regions/locations where GBM does business.

Dimensions

  1. Global coverage of the GBM business line, with GBM contributing approximately 20% to the total net income of the Scotiabank Group.
  2. The incumbent is expected to maintain an in-depth knowledge of operational processes throughout the applicable Business Lines and escalate issues promptly that are deemed to be serious or have broad impact.
  3. The position may lead multiple initiatives or other activities with tight deadlines.
  4. The incumbent should be able, on their own initiative, to resolve issues and also recognize the need to involve their supervisor/s and/or Subject Matter Experts when required.

Requirements

  1. University degree in business, finance, or other related field.
  2. Experience in Capital Markets is required.
  3. Experience in internal control, audit, compliance, or risk management.
  4. Experience leading teams is preferred.
  5. Experience with regulatory/risk-related efforts is preferred.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to guide decision-making processes and facilitate consensus.
  7. Proven problem-solving skills and experience.
  8. Strong writing skills, experience creating high-quality deliverables and projects.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate with the Business Lines, Supervisors, and other stakeholders.
  10. Excellent command of English (reading, writing, and speaking skills).
