Senior Engineering Director

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Director to play a key role in shaping, guiding, and growing our engineering team. In this role, you'll be responsible for driving the engineering team forward daily and working cross-functionally to provide technical expertise to other departments. You will partner closely with and report directly to the VP of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

1. Partner with the VP of Engineering to lead and manage a team of high-performing full-stack engineers, including hiring, training, and performance management.
2. Serve as the day-to-day engineering leader and technical expert while providing technical guidance and mentorship.
3. Assist with daily decision-making, ensuring team members are consistently unblocked.
4. Lead architecture and code reviews as well as get hands-on in code development and deployment when appropriate and necessary.
5. Assume responsibility for application support and immediate response to production issues as they arise.
6. Answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by engineering team members.
7. Partner with other departments, including product management and design, to set product priorities, define project requirements, shape solutions, and develop overall concepts for new product features and changes.
8. Work closely with other key stakeholders (e.g., marketing and customer success) to drive the development of features that maximize business impact and solve customer problems and frustrations.
9. Plan and allocate resources to meet project deadlines and objectives.
10. Spearhead various research initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.
11. Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team as we grow.
12. Partner with the VP of Engineering to develop and implement engineering processes and best practices to ensure velocity, efficiency, and quality.

Requirements

1. Experience leading and managing engineering teams delivering SaaS software (full stack teams preferable).
2. Experience making product decisions and/or working closely with a Product Manager to make product decisions.
3. Significant and proven experience as an individual contributor.
4. Knowledge of Ruby on Rails.
5. Ability to think carefully and weigh complex tradeoffs with an eye toward long-term product success and business goals.
6. History of explicit, clear, and detailed written and verbal communication.
7. Based in USA.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge of the social media and/or marketing tech landscape.
2. Experience working with React and Redux.
3. Knowledge of DevOps, infrastructure, and AWS.
4. Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Elastic Container Service (ECS), RDS, SQS, Terraform.
5. Backend: Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Node.js, Postgres, Redis.
6. Frontend: Turbo, React.
