Canonical is seeking a highly skilled Ubuntu Security Technology Manager to lead our security engineering team and contribute to making Ubuntu the most secure out-of-the-box operating system in the world.
This role is a great opportunity for experienced managers or technical leads who are passionate about Linux and want to be part of its distribution to millions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and Lead a Team: You will be responsible for building and leading a globally distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Deliver Technical Solutions: You will support timely delivery of technical solutions to address business needs.
- Provide Technical Thought Leadership: You will provide technical thought leadership for your team and others around Canonical.
- Advocate Agile Practices: You will advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
- Grow a Healthy Culture: You will grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
Requirements
- Software Engineering Skills: You will need exceptional software engineering skills – design, document, plan, execute.
- Programming Experience: You will need demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other similar languages also highly regarded.
- Linux Kernel Experience: You will need substantial experience with Linux kernel internals and concepts.
- Mandatory Access Control: You will need a solid understanding of Linux kernel development principles and deep understanding of Mandatory Access Control systems, such as Apparmor, SELinux, or security modules.
- Open Source Experience: You will need contributed to an open source project in the past.
- Team Management: You will need demonstrated experience in managing or leading software engineering teams.
