In addition to driving the restructuring and scaling of the data department and establishing rules and processes to meet business objectives, you will act as the technical reference for your area, leveraging your deep technical expertise to guide the team.
A critical part of your role will be developing internal talent, fostering growth, and empowering your team while balancing startup agility with corporate structure.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management:Oversee and mentor a team of Data Engineers and Data Scientists, ensuring alignment with business goals and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.Define and implement best practices for data quality, governance, and security across the organization.Restructure and scale the data department to meet evolving business needs, ensuring efficient workflows and resource allocation.Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for team growth and development.Data Strategy & Governance:Develop and execute a comprehensive Big Data strategy, ensuring the team leverages the latest technologies, methodologies, and cloud-based solutions in AWS.Establish and enforce data governance policies, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with industry standards and cloud security best practices.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, product, and operations) to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights, utilizing AWS analytics and storage.Technical Oversight:Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of ETL processes, data pipelines, and data warehouses.Ensure the team delivers high-quality machine learning models, data visualizations, and analytics dashboards.Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and frameworks to enhance the team's capabilities and efficiency.Project Management:Prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.Define clear KPIs and metrics to measure the success of data initiatives and report progress to senior leadership.Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex data concepts into actionable insights.QualificationsEducational Background:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.Experience:5+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.Proven experience in both startup and corporate environments, with the ability to balance agility and structure.Strong background in Big Data technologies, data pipelines, machine learning workflows, and cloud-based solutions.Technical Expertise:Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and PySpark.Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and tools like EMR, Glue, S3, and Airflow.Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn).Soft Skills:Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor team members.Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering business value through data.Language Proficiency:Proficient in English (written and spoken).
