**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The Applied Spatial Data Specialist in Colombia provides technical and scientific support for conservation initiatives based on Conservation by Design (CbD) other conservation activities and measures of conservation success (MOS). The Applied Spatial Data Specialist collects, manages and analyze spatial data for species, ecosystems and socioeconomic variables. They classify targets and assess data to prioritize areas for conservation and human wellbeing. The Applied Spatial Data Specialist conducts scientific surveys and research, ensure innovation in spatial science methods, records data, writes reports and develops proposals in order to administer, coordinate and support conservation programs within Colombia business unit. They must work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. This position reports to Colombia Science Coordinator and is located in Colombia.

**WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU**:

- Responsibilities and scope of this position include:
- Develops adaptive management plans, conceptual models and methodologies for spatial analysis to support conservation strategies.
- Develops and applies tools for processing, analysis, evaluation and modeling of spatial data in the context of Iconic Places.
- Designs and accompanies, from the spatial analysis component, the implementation of Conservation by Design 2.0 for planning and managing conservation priorities in Colombia.
- Develops material for dissemination of results and knowledge transfer, including reports, scientific publications, guides and manuals, presentations, among others.
- Timely development and follow up of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
- Supports the development of new proposals relevant to Colombia conservation priorities.
- Supervises the work of external consultants related to the projects under this position responsibility.
- May manage a grant, contract or write a request for proposal.
- Able to work in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, in hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

**WHAT YOU'LL BRING**:

- Master's Degree in science related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience synthesizing, interpreting and communicating scientific information.
- Experience preparing reports of findings.
- Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
- Record of peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
- Written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English.
- Experience using a variety of GIS, both proprietary (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine) and open source (e.g., QGIS, Python, R, Julia, PostGIS, GRASS) to maintain data repositories and complete geospatial analyses.
- Experience using code-driven analytical tools (e.g., R, Python, Julia, etc.) to manipulate and analyze both spatial and tabular data.
- Experience with scientific computing and demonstrated ability to leverage cutting-edge tools (e.g., high-performance and cloud computing; parallelization and distributed computing; code optimization) when needed to solve problems.
- Experience with capacity building.
- Experience with having attention to detail.
- Experience with meeting deadlines.
