As an Open Society Program Officer, you will:

- Provide input to a strategic vision and key components of OS-LAC's racial, ethnic, and gender justice strategy and identify relevant opportunities and challenges for Open Society.
- Assess project proposals and organizational capacities of potential grantees; write grant recommendations and memos to internal and external stakeholders; provide guidance to grantees on Open Society Foundations processes, procedures, and guidelines, and support their development; implement a strategy to monitor, learn and adapt grants and lines of work.
- Manage relationships with new and existing grantees, contractors, consultants, donors, and other stakeholders, including regular visits to public and civil society institutions in priority countries to evaluate outcomes.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other Open Society Foundations’ Units and teams where racial and gender justice intersect.
- Build and maintain dynamic and constructive relationships with national and local government officials, international actors and organizations, political actors, social movements, and civil society organizations across priority policy fields.
- Engage in direct advocacy, build strategic multi-sector alliances, conceptualize, convene meetings, and organize trips to advance related goals.

What we are looking for:

- Minimum of seven years of relevant experience related to reducing racial inequality, building power of women, Black, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and LGBTIQ populations and initiatives that address discriminatory and unequal social, political and economic structures.
- Experience and successful record of accomplishment in project management, budget execution, teamwork, and collaboration.
- Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and/or evaluating inclusion public policies in Latin America and/or the Caribbean.
- Knowledge of the gender, Afro-descendent, and Indigenous peoples’ social movements dynamics in Latin America and/or the Caribbean.
- Willingness to travel regularly (on average 25% of the time) and lead change in volatile and uncertain contexts.
- Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish, with excellent written and spoken English.
- Commitment to continuous learning and growth in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Commitment to listening and working with reserve, ways of working that respectful to all people, and that support space and voice for all varied perspectives in our workplace.

Desirable (but not required):

- Experience in advocacy and grant making or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in other OS-LAC priority issues, including climate justice, economic justice, citizen security, drug policy, information, or democracy renewal.
- Relevant experience in more than one Latin American country.
