Join a winning client underwriting team responsible for driving the Latin American treaty reinsurance business into the next dimension. Based in Bogota, you will strengthen our existing regional platform and coordinate closely with our local underwriting and actuarial teams, and also with claims/accounting.

As an Assistant Underwriter you should have 1-5 years of experience in the insurance sector, and at AXA XL you will learn to underwrite treaty and support the Underwriters in the region in all tasks related to the underwriting and administration support. You will work closely with our Underwriters supporting them in their activities associated with renewals, maintenance of the accounts and on models and systems. As a strong team-player you will assist the team in data quality assurance and continuous development of best practices for sustained profiyable growth of a diverse portfolio. You will utilize your strong communication and and quantitative skills as you work closely with the underwriters, clients and various functions and departments within the company.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Underwriting under guidance (within limits); preparing individual cases for pricing and modelling, liaising with Actuaries to deliver technical pricing to Underwriter; using modeling systems to aid the underwriting process; conducting research as requested by Underwriter.
- Where granted, you must operate within your defined authority level which will be commensurate with your skills and knowledge. This authority will be periodically reviewed as your experience grows and you demonstrate the competence as well as confidence to exercise it.
- Conducting pre-underwriting for renewals, handling endorsements on active business, conducting specific analyses for new business, and following up on renewals.
- Entering information into the underwriting systems and analyzing submission data.
- Developing an internal network for facilitating the transfer of information and data between functions and departments in order to service the requirements of the underwriters and clients.
- Assist the business group in maintaining and developing their book of business while developing the necessary skill sets and defined authority to accept risk in underwriting of a profitable account.
- Understand the strategy and financial targets of AXA XL and those applicable to the business unit. You will be set appropriate individual targets and goals that support delivery of the business plan.
- Attending internal and external meetings with clients and brokers.
- Responsible for pricing and technical underwriting analysis using AXA XL's reinsurance tools to determine expected profitability; eventual responsibility for individual assigned treaties / LoB's and territories within the LatAm region.
- Recommends appropriate underwriting action, with proper supporting documentation and filing, to ensure compliance within the company's internal guidelines.
- Qualifies cedant and insured approach to risk management and assesses the underlying exposures and trends relating to ceded portfolios, making recommendations for actuarial review. Participates in the tracking of nat cat aggregates on a treaty, and regional portfolio and underwriting team level.
- Plans for the long-term profitable growth and diversification of assigned territories/clients.

- 1-5 years of reinsurance or insurance sector experience.
- Fluent in English
- Preference given for experience with long-tail lines of business.
- Excels at quantitative analysis.
- Accountable and trustworthy team player with outstanding communication and negotiation skills. Ability to work well with both internal and external stakeholders.
- College degree with a emphasis in business, finance, actuarial, economics, statistics or related fields.
- Ability to manage a seasonally high workload.
