The purpose of a Data Architect is to design and implement effective database solutions that support an organization's data management needs. This involves creating models to store and retrieve data efficiently, ensuring that the database structures align with the company's operational requirements. By examining and identifying database necessities, a Data Architect helps streamline data processes, making it easier for various departments to access and utilize information. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of data, which is a valuable asset for any organization.

In addition to designing databases, a Data Architect is responsible for overseeing the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions. This process requires careful planning and execution to ensure that data is transferred accurately and securely. The Data Architect must also monitor system performance, performing regular tests and troubleshooting to identify and resolve any issues. By integrating new features and recommending improvements, they help keep the database systems up-to-date and efficient, supporting the organization's evolving data needs.

Accountabilities:

- Develop, maintain, and optimize data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) to meet business requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into data models.
- Plan data modelling and design activities, selecting appropriate techniques and the correct level of detail for meeting assigned objectives.
- Ensure data models are aligned with enterprise data architecture and governance standards and that they support business processes and objectives.
- Understand and document business processes related to data creation, management, and usage.
- Work with Data Engineers to ensure data models are integrated into data pipelines.
- Design and govern the delivery of the Domain Data Architecture, ensuring consistency in data modeling across solutions.
- Ensure delivery of data integration across the solutions of the domain.
- Utilize tools such as PowerDesigner to design and implement data solutions.
- Perform data analysis and profiling to ensure data quality and integrity.
- Document data models and metadata for reference and compliance purposes.
- Provide guidance and support to development teams on data modeling best practices.
- Participate in data architecture reviews and provide recommendations for improvements

Challenges:

- Supervise deliverables of near/off-shore consultants to meet deadlines, scope and budget.

**Skills**:

- Understanding of business processes related to data creation, management, and usage.
- Proficiency in data modeling techniques and tools e.g. PowerDesigner.
- Strong understanding of relational, NoSQL, and time-based data models.
- Experience with data integration, data governance, and master data management.
- Experience with data visualization tools to present data models and architectures.
- Methodology expertise on data architecture and modeling, from business requirements to data modeling.
- Data warehousing and Business Intelligence data products modeling (Inmon/Kimball/Data Vault/Codd modeling patterns).
- Knowledge of data persistency technologies: SQL (Ansi-2003 & Ansi-2023), Snowflake, NoSQL.
- Ability to communicate complex data structures and concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL processes.
