Geotechnical Engineer

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Bogota office. As part of the Geotechnical Group, the Geotechnical Engineer manages assessments and analyzation of the ground on which buildings and other structures will be erected; examine soil, check underground water flow, and conduct other tests to ensure the stability of an area before construction begins.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Examines the sites of proposed buildings or other structures, such as dams or tunnels, or those to be used for drilling or mining projects, to check soil stability and rock formations
- Confirms the safety and durability of surfaces for building projects, design structural foundations, and conduct environmental testing
- Conducts tests on items in a laboratory
- Study safety quality standards for different projects and make sure that each project adheres to these standards
- Inspects foundations, observing drilling activities, and reviewing work plans are some of the ways geotechnical engineers ensure adherence to these standards
- Present possible project risks, explain seismic activities, make recommendations for foundations and excavation activities, and summarize the progress of individual projects
- Perform analysis and design of deep foundations for Civil, Marine and DOD projects
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, and contractors
- Functions as technical specialist supporting project and pursuit teams
- Review test results and make recommendations
- Prepare geotechnical reports for clients including all applicable soil strength parameters and design capacities
- Perform various other geotechnical engineering tasks

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
- 10+ years of experience
- Professional License if required by state or country where this position will be located
- Experience utilizing geotechnical software (L-Pile, A-Pile, WEAP) & AutoCAD
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- Availability and willingness to travel
- Bi-lingual / multi-lingual desired
- All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

**Physical requirements**:
Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
