We are seeking a compassionate, assertive, and detail-oriented Medical Collections
Specialist to oversee patient responsibility and private pay balances. In this role, you will
manage outstanding accounts receivable after insurance has processed, work with
Medicaid-pending or Medicaid liability accounts, and directly engage with patients and their
family members or legal guarantors to resolve balances.
Key Responsibilities

Patient & Family Engagement: Directly contact patients, family members, power of
attorneys (POAs), or legal guardians via phone and mail to discuss outstanding balances
and secure payment.

Private Pay & Patient Responsibility: Resolve self-pay balances, co-pays,
deductibles, coinsurance, and private room rate differences in a firm yet empathetic
manner.

Medicaid Collections: Work with residents and families to manage Patient Liability
Amount (NAMI/Spend-down) balances and address payment gaps during Medicaid
application or renewal processes.

Payment Plans & Settlements: Negotiate manageable payment arrangements and
settlements within company financial guidelines.

Account Resolution: Identify delinquent accounts for escalation, bad-debt write-offs, or
third-party collection agencies when necessary.

Compliance & Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous notes in the billing software while
adhering strictly to HIPAA, FDCPA, and state regulatory standards.
Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: 2+ years of healthcare collections, patient financial counseling, or accounts
receivable experience.

Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal communication and conflict-resolution skills.
You must feel completely comfortable having direct, sensitive financial conversations
with residents' family members.

Medicaid Familiarity: Solid understanding of Medicaid patient liability, spend-downs,
and how Medicaid coverage affects patient responsibility.

Software Proficiency: Experience with healthcare billing/EHR systems (e.g.,
PointClickCare, MatrixCare, Epic, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

Mindset: Strong negotiation skills balanced with empathy, patience, and high emotional
intelligence.
